This section shows where universities are outputting the most graduates entering work in the digital sector. The chart shows the total number of graduates created by the local authority district of their university, rather than where they ultimately located after graduation.
We filtered the original dataset to include:
We then mapped the number of graduates by provider, to number of graduates by postcode, using the postcode of each UK Learning Provider Reference Number (UKPRN). We then mapped each postcode to a local authority using an ONS lookup. Finally, we grouped by local authority and counted the total for each local authority.
Some UK Learning Providers do not have an entry in the UKPRN to postcode lookup. After including 16 manually researched postcodes, we were able to assign 98% of the graduates (39,375) to local authorities. This leaves 820 unassigned from the source data. These are split across more than 100 providers, with no single (un-mapped) provider having more than 25 graduates in the two SICs of interest.
